This performance sculpture was made to wear during a fool hearted actionl in which I spun around again, and again while yelling out all the names of famous Hurricanes I could remember until I fell down. I made a video of the performance at Acadia National Park which is on YouTube, below are some stills too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmtXJWNhaCg

The spinning was about disorienting me into a state of abandon, trying to pull out types of movement that are hard to access when you have all your faculties. A movement of trying not to fall.

I grew up in Houston, so hurricanes were a big part of my childhood. Every fall I would track them with my grandfather. I love the way they look of course.

Later on, in the summer of 2010, in a cruel irony, my silly ritual was perhaps fulfilled. An F2 tornado hit my studio directly in Bridgeport, CT while I was inside of it. It pulled off the roof, and sent it across the street. Almost all of my archive of work up to that point was destroyed, and I am still parsing out exactly how it affected me.
